Stanley Mining Services Pty Ltd (SMS) is an international contract drilling company, headquartered in Perth, Western Australia. The company operates a fleet of in excess of 75 drill rigs worldwide.

The enterprise, which commenced operations in Kalgoorlie, Western Australia in 1980 with a single second hand Mole Pioneer drill rig, is today a professional and dynamic company with operations throughout Western Australia and on the African continent in 7 countries.

Australian contract drilling companies have built a reputation for being able to perform in the harshest of conditions. The experience gained in Australia prepared the company well for expansion into difficult international markets and the Company now has experience in over 15 countries.

In 1991, Stanley made is first move into the international market place by sending two exploration drill rigs to Ghana, West Africa to undertake a contract for the Ashanti Goldfields Company. Today, the company known as West African Drilling Services (WADS) operates a fleet of 19 drill rigs in the region.

Stanley Mining Services successfully listed on the Australian Stock Exchange in 1995 and traded as a publicly listed company until the June 1997 acquisition by the Layne Christensen Company of America, a company listed on the NASDAQ. Just prior to the acquisition by Layne, SMS purchased the Kalgoorlie based drilling company Glindemann and Kitching Pty Ltd, which now operates as Layne Drilling Pty Ltd. These acquisitions helped to create one of the largest drilling companies in the world. The Layne Christensen Company is now a leading supplier of

mineral exploration drilling services with more than 350 drilling rigs worldwide. The company is firmly established as the market leader in both Latin America and Africa.
