OVERVIEW The Australia/Africa group of companies began as Stanley Mining Services (SMS), which successfully listed on the Australian Stock Exchange in 1995.  The company traded as a publicly listed company until the June 1997 acquisition by Layne Christensen Company, listed on the NASDAQ.  Just prior to the acquisition by Layne Christensen Company, SMS purchased the Kalgoorlie based drilling company Glindemann and Kitching Pty Ltd, which now operates as Layne Drilling Pty Ltd.  Along with acquisition and establishment of the other African companies, the Australia/Africa group is now firmly established as one of Australia's leading exporters of mineral exploration drilling services, with a proven track record of success in difficult international markets.

Australian contract drilling companies have built a reputation of being able to perform in the harshest of conditions. The successful experience gained in Australia prepared the company for expansion into difficult international markets and the company now has experience in over 15 countries.
