
WEST AFRICAN DRILLING SERVICES
OVERVIEW – West African Drilling Services was formed in November 1998 as a joint venture with the merge of Australian contract drilling companies Stanley Mining Services Pty Ltd and Ausdrill Ltd. In August 2001 Layne Christensen Company announced it would acquire Ausdrill's 50 per cent share of the business. West African Drilling Services is now wholly owned by Layne Christensen Company.
Headquartered in Bamako Mali, WADS undertakes exploration drilling for clients throughout most of the West African region. WADS operates primarily in Burkina Faso, Guinea, Mali and Mauritania. Other countries where successful operations have previously been undertaken include Ghana, Cote D'Ivoire, Niger and Senegal.
West African Drilling Services is firmly established as the largest exploration-drilling contractor in West Africa. The company operates a high quality drill rig fleet and associated support equipment at sites throughout West Africa.
West African Drilling Services has a substantial and well-established infrastructure base in the region. The main centres are located at Mali-Bamako, Burkina Faso-Ouagadougou and Guinea-Kankan. The company maintains an extensive fleet of support vehicles, equipment and stores. Satellite workshops are now positioned at most of the major work sites throughout the region, supported by the main centres.
OUR PEOPLE – The company employs an experienced team of Expatriates and national employees from the various countries in the region. The majority of staff are employed as drillers and heavy-duty fitters, supported by a strong administration division and an experienced management team. Many employees have extensive experience drilling at various sites throughout West Africa. This has enabled the company the ability to develop an excellent understanding of the region's ground and climatic conditions. The company has a strong commitment to the ongoing training and development of the local workforce including the maintenance of international standard occupational health and safety for all employees. Safety reviews and safety audits are a normal part of the company's operations.
