LAYNE DRILLING TANZANIA
OVERVIEW – Layne Drilling Tanzania, formerly known as Stanley Mining Services Tanzania, made its first foray into Tanzania to undertake work for the Ashanti Goldfields Company in 1996. Four successful years later the company was firmly established as one of the leading drilling contractors in East Africa.
With continued growth in the level of exploration activity forecast to escalate in the region, Layne Christensen Company purchased the Tanzanian based drilling company Afridrill in September 1997. Afridrill was merged with the Stanley business and commenced new project work for clients in western Tanzania. Since this time the company has grown considerably and now operates a high quality drill rig fleet and associated support equipment at sites throughout Tanzania. Contracts have successfully been completed in Uganda and other neighbouring countries.
Operating from a base at Mwanza on the edge of Lake Victoria, Layne Drilling is centrally located in the heart of the mining areas. The Mwanza premise comprises a fully equipped mechanical workshop and administration base. The company maintains an extensive fleet of support vehicles and equipment along with a store containing adequate back-up parts and consumables. Satellite facilities are established at other major work sites as required.
