HEALTH, SAFETY and ENVIRONMENT – things that matter to all of us Layne Drilling and its subsidiaries are committed to maintaining an international occupational health and safety program across all of its divisions, regardless of location. Ongoing safety reviews and internal and external safety system audits form an integral part of the company's operations.

The Company is committed to ongoing training for all employees. Each divisional Safety Co-ordinator is responsible for implementing a structured safety training program.  They are also fully supported by the Layne Christensen Company's safety division in the USA.

LAYNE DRILLING TANZANIA RECOGNISED FOR ‘SAFETY FIRST’ Over the past 8 years Layne Drilling Tanzania has quietly been adding awards to their office walls in Mwanza. These awards range from the attainment of prestigious awards presented by Government and Non-Government Departments, to receiving Certificates of Recognition honoured by clients, accomplishing Safety Achievement awards within Layne Safety, and receiving Notifications of Compliance to both NOSA and ISO 14001 Audit requirements of clients.

In 2001 the Vice President of Tanzania awarded Layne Drilling Tanzania for its ‘Contributions to Improving Road Safety’ in the country, achieved by the successful implementation of the company’s 4x4 Defensive Driver Training Program involving the training of both client and company employees.

In 2006 the company’s Safety Manager was presented with the award, ‘Best Male Contribution to Occupational Health and Safety’ by the Occupational Safety and Health Authority of Tanzania. The award was presented by Assistant Minister for Labor the Hon. Daniel Nsazugwako at OSHA’s first Safety Awareness Day, held in Arusha on 1 May 2006.

In 2007 Layne Drilling Tanzania received an award by the Occupational Safety and Health Authority of Tanzania for ‘Best OSHA Performer in the Mining Sector’, presented by the Tanzania Minister for Labor Hon. Jeremia Sumary.

In March 2009, the Prime Minister of Tanzania Hon. Mizengo Pinda awarded the company the ‘Best Occupational Health and Safety Employer of the year’ award at the 2008 Association of Tanzania Employers Awards.

On 27 May 2009 at the Tanzania Contractors Registration Board Awards, the company was nominated to receive the award for ‘Best Occupational Health, Safety and Environment Compliant Contractor for the year 2009’. The General Manager of Layne Drilling Tanzania, Mr. Mal Edmonds was presented with the award by the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete.

The achievement of such awards and certifications demonstrates that Layne Drilling Tanzania and its management is respected for its continued efforts at putting Safety First.
